History of traditional Chinese medicine |
History of traditional Chinese medicine
 |
In the course of development of human civilization there have appeared four traditional medical systems. Apart from the traditional Chinese medicine, there were Egyptian, Roman, and Indian medical systems. However, the latter three traditional medical systems gradually declined until they became extinct, with only individual prescriptions having survived by being scattered and preserved among the populations.Western medicine has a history of only over 200 years, while traditional Chinese medicine was the unique system of medical treatment of the Chinese people for thousands of years and, by virtue of its safety and efficacy, has made important contributions to the procreation and thriving of the Chinese people and has shown its tremendous vitality at the same time. China has a great diversity of natural conditions, which have bred the rich and abundant resources of Chinese medicinal materials that endow China, as special favors of nature, with a superiority in the development of the Chinese medicinal industry. In her medical practice of several thousand years, China has summed up her clinical experience, formed a complete theoretical system of medicine and preserved both esoteric recipes and proved recipes totaling more than 300,000 in number. China had more than 5000 years of feudal society. The emperors of successive dynasties of China each owned harems in which lived royal consorts and concubines thousands in number. In order to enable the emperors to maintain optimum male sexuality and enjoy male health and longevity the court physicians sought and researched incessantly for the most efficacious tonic for the male gender that could keep the body strong and in good condition. Such court recondite recipes for natural male enhancement became quite perfect in about the year 1700 during the Ming Dynasty. The fact that there is still no uniform international testing standard for traditional Chinese medicinal materials has become the greatest obstacle to entrance of traditional Chinese medicines into the world market.
